BACKGROUND:
Although not as popular as Goomba and Koopa Troopa, Pokey has appeared in numerous games, each
time as an enemy that must be beaten multiple times. They live in the desert normally although
some were spotted in Yoshi's Island, Isle Delfino and (even stranger) the Special World! This
seems to prove that Pokey really does tend to get around. Pokey must have each segment destroyed,
one at a time.
Pokey had a cameo appearance on Koholint Island in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and
has also appeared in Mario Party 5 and Mario Kart: Double Dash.
EVOLUTION:
In the beginning, Pokeys appeared Green in Super Mario Bros. 2. In Super Mario World, Pokeys were yellow with tiny spikes on their heads.
Yoshi's Island had green Pokeys again, with two faces! They may actually be a different species, or since this game takes place before the others, Pokeys may have evolved from this version. That could explain why no other green ones have been seen since Super Mario Bros. 2 as well.
In Super Mario 64, they were slightly darker but otherwise remained faithful to the
yellow version (sorry about the bad screenshot). Paper Mario kept the yellow version too.
In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario ran into orange tropical Pokeys with flowers on their heads! It's unkown whether this is a new evolution of Pokey or just a slightly different version, but they seem to be popping up in other places, like Dry Dry Desert in Mario Kart: Double Dash, and even in Super Mario Galaxy.
