BACKGROUND:
Dodo is cursed to live a life of servitude to the overbearing Valentina. Nobody
knows why Dodo puts up with the witchy woman's bossy behaviour and annoying
attitude, but he seems to do all of her dirty work even though it makes him
grumpy.
In spite of all the work he does for Valentina, Dodo has become enormous from
laziness and overeating. Maybe he's just too lazy to leave Valentina! He has
black feathers with some white and red accents and a large, colourful beak.
He wears a decorative helmet to signify his status as second in command of
Valentina's troops, although since they were chased out of Nimbus Land, there
aren't a lot of troops to command anymore.
In spite of his size, Dodo can still fly, but he's pretty slow and not overly
dangerous on his own. He's still not a creature to pick on, but he's only a
real threat together with Valentina.
|
OTHER BACKGROUND INFO:
"Too lazy to lift a wing, this flightless fool has settled for a comfy life in
Nimbus Castle. Much as he hates Valentina's bossing him around, Dodo dreads
the thought of getting a real job even more. Ruffle his feathers, though, and
he turns into a ferocious opponent!"
-SMRPG Player's Guide
"Fend off Dodo's Mutli-strike attacks by Bracing your lone party member. If
Dodo defeats this one ally, the game ends. However you'll probably find that
Dodo is a big chicken who'll turn his tail feathers and run back to Valentina.
Before he gets there, Valentina will have begun battling the two remaining
party members."

BATTLE PLAN:
First two Fights:
Attack Pattern: Before the first fight, Dodo will
try to peck Mario off of his statue pedestal. If you avoid the pecking, you
won't have to fight him. The second time, you will have a chance to catch up
to Dodo and fight him as he tries to escape from the Castle.
In battle, he uses regular attacks mixed with Flutter Hush (mutes one character)
and Multistrike (hits one character multiple times for medium damage). Sometimes
he'll get two turns in a row.
Basic Strategies: Neither battle is too hard. Lots
of regular attacks with the occasional break for healing should do the trick.
Use Mario's special attacks to speed up the fights a little.
Advanced Strategies: If you avoid the first fight
by dodging Dodo's attacks on the Mario-statue, you'll get a Feather. You can
avoid the second fight by letting Dodo escape, or better yet, finding the Starman
hidden in a chest before you get to him. You need to find a hidden platform
under the chest to get to it.
In battle you can block Dodo's regular attack by pressing A at the end of his
pecking motion. When he does the Multistrike attack, press A at the end of
the last of the pecks (there are about four) to block.
Third Fight:
Attack Pattern: On the last battle, Dodo will take
one of your party members and fight that member one-on-one until he loses about
300 HP, then he and the party member will rejoin the main battle. Otherwise,
he has the same attacks as in the first two. He'll give up if Valentina loses.
Basic Strategies: Hopefully you have quite a few
healing items on hand for the one-on-one fight. Use regular attacks and heal
when needed. When Dodo and Valentina rejoin, you should concentrate on either
Dodo or Valentina, don't spread out your attacks between them. Dodo is easier
to beat and can Mute your party members, but if you beat Valentina, Dodo automatically
gives up, so both strategies are equally good.
Advanced Strategies:
Dodo always fights the middle character in your party. Bowser and Geno are good
choices because they have strong offensive power. Dodo will almost always use
Flutter Hush to stop Mallow and the Princess from using their healing magic, so
try to avoid having them in the middle. You could also equip the middle character
with something like a Safety Badge to block Flutter Hush.
As before, you can block both his regular attack and Multistrike by pressing
A at the end of either attack. Blocking Multistrike makes the one-on-one battle
much easier...he'll barely cause any damage at all so you won't need to heal.
