New Games, 13th Anniversary
I'm sure everyone knows by now that Nintendo has announced New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U plus New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Paper Mario Sticker Star for the 3DS. I've added them to the site too!

Super Mario 3DS
During Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's keynote speech at the Game Developer's Conference, he announced and showed a couple of shots of Super Mario 3DS! The game logo includes the shadow of a Raccoon tail: could this mean the return of Racoon or even Tanooki Mario?

Ahead by a Sentry
Thanks to Sly Guy, we have the Sentry Beams from the Super Mario Galaxy games. I updated Bowser with a bunch of new info from Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi Topsy-Turvy - that makes him the first entry for Topsy-Turvy. Finally, a Super Mario World update for Iron Ball thanks to a submitter whose name I unfortunately lost.
Just over a month until the introduction of 3DS! Personally I'm looking forward to Street Fighter 4 and maybe PilotWings Resort, and of course I can't wait for the new Paper Mario.

Hammer Bros. and Bob-ombs to Appear in Paper Mario 3DS
Some Paper Mario 3DS movies from the Nintendo World 2011 are popping up on YouTube confirming that Bob-ombs and Hammer Bros. will appear in the new game. Activities include exploring a cave full of lava and rafting on a forest river.
Mario Kart 3DS is also on display with tracks resembling those from the Wii version of the game.

E3 News: Mario-Related Games
Nintendo just unveiled four new Mario-related projects you may be interested in at E3:
Mario Kart for 3DS: The classic returns on Nintendo's new handheld. Available at launch.
Paper Mario for 3DS: Will it be a remake or a brand-new game? Only time will tell...it's supposed to come out for the 3DS launch.
Mario Sports Mix: A party game featuring volleyball, dodgeball, hockey and basketball. Sports Mix is coming early next year.
Donkey Kong Country Returns: An all-new Donkey Kong Country adventure in 2D! The game stars DK and Diddy and it will launch in time for Christmas 2010.

It's a bit of a gray area! (Terrible joke, sorry!) Here's two gray monsters: Super Thwomp by Boo401 and Dragonzamasu by Nook - Harry did the art for both! Technically Dragonzamasu could also be considered orange (based on official art), but he sure isn't in the game!

Crazy Anniversary
Hey all, my apologies for the site going down for a while there, I was on vacation and some things that are supposed to auto-renew did not.

Bowser's Insides

Ghosts in the Shadows

I decided this week to change the "Dark" clones from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to "Shadow" since Tabuu's army is made up of Shadow Bugs. I also have new 3D art for Boo and Drowsy Boo.

In case you've submitted a monster to the site and never saw it or got a note about it, note that we give priority to enemies from the Mario games rather than helpful characters (like Yoshis or Nokis) and non-Mario enemies that appear as heroes or items in Brawl (like Waddle-Dee or Pokemon). For the best chance of seeing your submissions on the site quickly submit monsters from the Mario, Wario and Yoshi adventure games - there are still hundreds of them missing from the site!

Shake Some Pirate Booty
Wario Land Shake It is out and I've added the game's most basic enemy, Bandinero, to the site. We also have Dual Dragon from Emerald Koopa, Hyper Cleft from Noah, and Fishbone from blueeyes202. Pat did the art for Hyper Cleft and Dual Dragon.

Secret Bosses
We have the two side-quest bosses from Super Paper Mario this week: Wracktail and Shadoo from Ty and Junotoad, respectively. We also have Wracktail's Wrackles from Clubba, and Parabuzzy from Noah. Pat did all the art except for Parabuzzy.

Staff and Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I want to take a minute to thank Jimmy Piranha and Boo Buddy Justin for all of their hard work on our staff over the past few years: both have moved on with new challenges in their lives.

All Types of Updates
Thanks to contributor Tigt, we now have sprites for all of the enemies starting with "A". We also have a brand-new link for N64 videos, a small update on Raphael the Raven courtesy of Nick, and Pat and I created new art for Smilax and King Boo, respectively.
Of course there are new monsters, too: Monty Mole, Kamella and Chuckolator; Pat did Monty Mole plus all of the art, Will Lett did the write-ups on the other two monsters.

Some contributors have been capitalizing too many words in their submissions. Only the first word in each sentence and proper names need to be capitalized. There's No Need for Your Sentence to Look Like This. It takes a lot of time to go through a whole submission and fix all those capitals. Thanks for all of your help! Hammer Bros, Bowser and Giga Bowser in Brawl
Thanks to SmashBros.com, we have new shots of Hammer Bros., Bowser, Giga Bowser and Wario in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Hammer Bros. are not playable, but they will help you if you find an Assist Trophy (like a Pokeball only it can hold any Nintendo character). Meanwhile, Bowser will transform into Giga Bowser when he does his Final Smash attack.

200 Monsters Added
Here's a special note: As of last week, there are 200 monsters in the compendium! I would have mentioned it last week, but it snuck up on me because the Koopa Bros. make four new monsters even though they share the same page. Monster 201 is Jagger from Super Mario RPG. I hope to add some Mario & Luigi info to the site soon!

Site Moves to Mario Monsters
Phew! I ran into some problems and had to switch servers. It took me two weeks, but I finally have the site up and running again! Welcome to our new home at mariomonsters.com!
For this week, I'm adding the Toadstool Clone from Super Mario RPG plus some new artwork for Wanderin' Goom. and a small update to Belome. .

Fourth Anniversary
2003-5-14: Tomorrow is the site's fourth anniversary! I'd like to celebrate by taking a moment to recognize the volunteers who have helped the site this year:
First and foremost, thanks to Alex Jaffe and Christian Guzman, the regular site contributors, they've helped out so much! The site wouldn't be anywhere near as good without them. Also this year, I've had some help from:

100 Monsters
2002-10-7: This is a very special update, as this week we celebrate the 100th unique monster to join the compendium! Thanks to Alex Jaffe, who did the page for our 100th character, Wanderin' Goom from Wario Land!
To celebrate, I also have major updates to Koopa Paratroopa and Bob-omb including quotes, strategies and pictures from Paper Mario and Super Mario Sunshine!

20,000 Hits
Zeostar takes a trip from Super Mario RPG to the compendium, and Mastadoom gets a tiny new screenshot. Also, I'd like to thank all my visitors for putting the Mario Monster Compendium up over 20,000 hits! Yay for visitors!

Super Mario Bros. Finished
This update marks a special occasion...I am adding Bloobers to the compendium, and that completes all of the monsters from the original Super Mario Bros! I also have a new render of Starslap available today.

Third Anniversary
To celebrate the site's third anniversary I'd like to take a moment to thank all of the people who have contributed to it! Here they are, in no particular order:
