BACKGROUND: Originally thought to be exterminated by Dr. Mario, the viruses were recently discovered to have survived in the far-off Beanbean Kingdom. They tend to attack in groups and never fight alone. It is unknown how the Viruses became large (as before, they could only been seen at microscopic scale in bottles), but reports claim that Cackletta used her magic on a bottle containing the last specimens. They quickly duplicated and took over the lab alongside Laser Snifits and Mecha-Chomps. Viruses have the ability to shift their form between the three colours when attacked, read the Battle Plan for more info.
EVOLUTION: In Dr. Mario, they appeared as small and 8-Bit style.  Returning to Mario & Luigi, they were larger and had more distinct facial expressions.
OTHER BACKGROUND INFO: "These contagious viruses make life difficult for Dr. Mario. They infect everything they come into contact with, and the good doctor must attempt to neutralize them with his trusty megavitamins. Dr. Mario can stop these pesky germs by lining up the megavitamin capsules of the same color with the nasty microorganism." - Super Smash Bros. Melee Trophy
BATTLE PLAN:
Mario & Lugi Superstar Saga
Attack Pattern: Their Bite attack does decent damage. Outside of battle, they will leap at you. Watch out!
Basic Strategies: Simply keep whacking them. Hammers and Jumps work equally as well. Take these guys out first as they can be more of a hassle than other enemies.
Advanced Strategies: Watch their movements closely. They are amongst the hardest enemies to counterattack in the game! If you simply make every Virus on the screen the same colour, they’ll all be beaten. You’ll still get any items/EXP/coins too!  They cycle from Blue to Yellow to Red and back to Blue. They’ll swap colours only when they take damage, including when you counter attack, so bear this in mind. The Viruses all have the same amount of Hp, and they all use the same attack methods, wait about three seconds into their attack before unleashing the hammer.
