BACKGROUND:
Rumour has it that a clever Goomba developed the spiked helmet as a defense against the stomping tactics used to squash Goombas in battle. The spike prevents stomping attacks by those who are not equipped with sturdy footwear. The spikes are sometimes dipped in poison which can paralyze attackers who try to stomp Spiked Goombas.
Spiked Goombas are mostly used to reinforce unprotected Goombas. Because the helmets are made from Spiketop shells, there are not enough to meet the Koopa Troop's needs, and most Goombas must still go without protection from stomping.
