BACKGROUND:
Wario needed some extra cash in order to buy items that would help him with the bosses in the pyramid. There was an arcade nearby, and one of the games was "The Wario Hop". He encountered these obstacles in the game:
A professer eating a riceball
A girl on a horse
A fat little cactus, likely male
A dancing rock (0_o)
A flashing pig (maybe drummers in other versions?)
And an... attractive cactus, that blows kisses at Wario.
