Mario's first adventure on Game Boy takes him to the distant Kingdom of Sarasaland where an alien named Tatanga has invaded and kidnapped Princess Daisy.
This game was designed by Gunpei Yokoi rather than Shigeru Miyamoto so many of the enemies and settings never returned. Princess Daisy is practically the only Super Mario Land character to appear in any other games, Tatanga made a boss cameo in Super Mario Land 2.
The game played similarly to Super Mario Bros., but also included two side-scrolling shooter levels: one in a plane and one in a submarine.
