Sample Monster

This page gives you a sample of the content included in each of the site's monster pages.

HAPPY FACE! (This is the monster's name)
GAMES: A list of games the character appears in. For a list of abbreviations go to the About Page. This is a picture of the Monster!
Here we have a picture of our monster - don't worry, it won't normally be an annoying animated gif.
TYPE: The character's "species"...includes human, fungus, turtle, etc... some enemies are difficult to classify, and may be called "traps", or just "monsters".
TURF: The environments the character tends to inhabit, such as desert, water, snowy worlds, and so on. It may also include a specific environment, like "Bowser's Keep".
AFFILIATIONS: Clubs and organizations that the character belongs to. For example, the 8 Bits Club, or the Koopa Troop.
CLOSE RELATIVES: Enemies that are (or appear to be) close relatives of the monster.
HP: Stands for Hit Points (or "Heart Points" in Paper Mario). This is how many hits the character can withstand. I've used the statistics from Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG wherever possible. The "official" statistic usually comes from Paper Mario, with the SMRPG stat listed below, under "SMRPG".
I make up stats for characters which don't appear in either game, and I try to base them on Paper Mario, since I consider that game to be closer to the actual Mario universe. I may eventually give the SMRPG characters Paper Mario-style stats too, but that won't be for a long time...
FP: "Flower Points". In most RPGs these are called Magic Points...they tell you how much magic a character can use. Since I haven't seen them listed anywhere, I'm making these ones up :)
OFFENSE: This is how powerful the character's attacks and magic spells are. The Super Mario RPG stats include a value for normal attacks and a value for magical attacks. Paper Mario has just one value for both.
DEFENSE: This is a numeric rating of how well the character defends against attacks. In Super Mario RPG, there is one value for regular attacks and one for magical attacks. Paper Mario has one value for each.
SPEED: How fast the character moves, or in SMRPG, how fast they attack. This may vary from one game to another. I just give this a verbal rating.
INTELLIGENCE: How smart the character is. Just gets a verbal rating.
SPECIAL/MAGIC ATTACKS: A list of magic spells or other special attacks the enemy knows.
STRENGTHS: Any strong points (spells it is strong against, dangerous attacks, etc.)
WEAKNESSES: Weak points in the monster (magics spells it can't stand, etc.)
ITEMS: Stuff the monster might give you when defeated. This varies depending on the game, and will also include any coins you might earn.
STAR / EXPERIENCE POINTS:
POINTS: In Super Mario RPG you get "experience points" which will make your characters stronger if you collect enough of them. Paper Mario has "star points" which do the same thing as experience. If an enemy has no Star Point values, I may make them up based on how tough the enemy is and how far into the game you find him. In other Mario games, you get plain old points. Note that you almost always get more points for defeating several enemies in a row (with a shell, or by stomping without touching the ground for example).
BACKGROUND: The story behind the monster. What it's function is in the Mario Universe, who it works for, what it does, what it looks like. This information often has to be made up, unless the character is well-known in the Mario universe. Someone like Bowser has enough real background information that I don't have to make up anything about him. Characters like the Sumo Bros. or K-9 on the other hand, are really hard to find official background info on.
EVOLUTION: How the monster has changed over the years in appearance, skill, etc. This section only appears for enemies that have been in multiple games. The pictures are in thumbnail format for real monsters, so you can get a bigger one.
the evolution of the face
OTHER BACKGROUND INFO: I may include background information from manuals, player's guides, etc. This could appear on a seperate page, depending on how much info there is on the monster.
QUOTES: Any quotes from the monster. Some will be taken from SMRPG, some from manuals, and any other sources I can find. I may not keep complete quotes for characters who have lots of speaking roles (Bowser for instance), just the more entertaining ones.
BATTLE PLAN: How the character fights, and the best/easiest strategies for beating him or her. For complicated, or long-running enemies, this section may appear on a seperate page.
MEDIA: Media (mostly graphics) relating to the monster.
